Jumping outside the comfort zone: how we support Amber with outdoor exploration.

Let’s talk about Amber*. 

Before joining Abacus, Amber didn't have a scheduled activity plan because of the incidents she had with other people using the service. 

She never went outside in the garden, and didn't have a sufficient outlet for expending her boundless energy. 

When she joined Abacus, staff recognised Amber's energetic nature and introduced a trampoline to her garden, which she loves jumping on. 

With the support of her team, she is beginning to take short walks beyond her home. 

The staff supporting Amber have gotten to know her really well. She's grown to know and trust them too. 

Amber requires a mix of 2:1 and 3:1 support. Since joining us in November 2024, Amber's commissioned support has reduced by a significant 42 hours per week. 

Professionals in Amber's Multi Disciplinary Team have commented on how much Amber's communication and empathy has improved. 

We will always celebrate Amber's positive achievements and steps towards independence.
